Eucharist (Holy Communion)

The Holy Eucharist is the most important of the seven sacraments because, in this and in no other sacrament, we receive the very body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. Innumerable, precious graces come to us through the reception of Holy Communion.

First Holy Communion is geared towards children Year 3 in Primary School. Though older children who have missed the programme when they were in Year 3 are still welcome to join and any child who does not go to a Catholic school are also very welcome to join.

This First Holy Communion programme, which will also bring the children to the Sacrament of their First Reconciliation, begins with meetings for parents, which will be advised of through school and the catechists. The catechists will also go into school during school hours to go through the programme with the children. They will bring their booklets home, which parents are advised to look through with their child too.

Adults who receive First Holy Communion often do so at the Easter Vigil Mass, which is a beautiful mass and a beautiful time to first receive the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus. When the children receive Holy Communion for the first time, they are, in effect, saying –

"Now I'm fully a part of this community, this Family of God!"

What could mean more, than simply growing in faith and with regular involvement in the Mass, gaining a sense, with family and friends in prayer and worship, that they really do belong?

If your child does not attend a Catholic school, or you are on adult, and would like to receive this sacrament, please speak to Father Tony who will put you in touch with one of our experienced catechists.

Please pray for all the people and their families who have chosen to become a part of God’s beautiful family, Amen.
